Call for Abstracts!
We are inviting submissions for oral abstract– and new for 2024 – poster presentations at the BrAVO Winter Meeting “Purr-spectives in feline Ophthalmology” to be held on 8th – 10th November 2024 at Stratford Upon Avon.
Info for Oral Abstract Presentation Submissions:
You will need to submit an abstract of no more than 250 words by 30th September. An abstract template and guidelines can be found below. The abstracts will be evaluated by the BrAVO Scientific Committee and if successful, you will be invited to deliver a 15 minute oral presentation (excluding time for questions at the end) at the meeting.
Successful applicants must register for the meeting & be a BrAVO member before attending, but will receive a cash contribution of £150 against the cost of their ticket (unless already receiving a BrAVO grant).

Who can submit a poster?
Anyone can submit an abstract for a poster presentation – it is open to first opinion practitioners, certificate holders, diplomates, veterinary students, interns, nurses and residents!
What can be presented as poster?
We welcome posters about an unusual case or case series, a procedure or a new surgical technique you have developed in practice, essentially anything interesting about ophthalmology! It does not need to be related to the theme of the meeting but we do encourage posters to contain photographs and images. Please see the attachments for examples of poster abstracts. What do I need to do if my abstract is successful?
Successful applicants will be invited to create a poster from their abstract. A template and guidelines will be provided and the completed poster must be submitted by Sunday 27th October. Poster presenters must register for the meeting and become a BrAVO member before attending. For this inaugural year, BrAVO will organise and pay for the printing of your poster which will displayed on the Friday and Saturday of the Winter Meeting in the exhibition hall.
Why should I enter?
Obviously for the kudos! But if that isn’t enough to convince you, all successful applicants will receive free entry to the Gala Dinner on the Saturday 9th November. The best poster will be voted for by the Scientific committee and the winner will receive one year of free BrAVO membership for next year.
Can I take my printed poster with me afterwards?
Yes, you can take your printed poster home if you wish to keep it after the conference.
Important deadlines:
- Abstract Submission by 30th September.
- Successful applicants will be notified by 9th October 2024
- Posters must be submitted by 27th October 2024
- Posters will be displayed in the exhibition hall from 8th – 9th November 2024
- Best poster will be announced on Saturday 9th November 2024
Abstract guidelines
When submitting an abstract for a poster or oral presentation for the BrAVO meeting, please follow the guidelines below:
- The first line should give the title in capitals.
- The authors’ names should appear on the next line – initials followed by last name.
- Provide the name of your practice /institution.
- Use single spacing.
- Use 10 point Calibri font for all text.
- Your submission should be structured as Purpose | Methods | Results | Conclusion.
- The abstract word limit is 250 words (excluding the title, authors, institution, headings and figures).
- Photographs or diagrams are encouraged, but do not place them within the main body text. Instead send each photograph or diagram as a separate JPEG image with a title such as “Figure 1: The eye before surgery”. Up to four images may be included for the abstract (more can be used for the poster).
Please submit your abstract to rgrundon@hotmail.co.uk by 30th September. Be sure to include whether the abstract is for an oral presentation, poster, or either.
