We are offering an exciting opportunity for a veterinary surgeon interested in a career in Veterinary
Ophthalmology who possesses the right combination of a strong work ethic, a sense of humour, and
an open-minded approach to join our excellent and dedicated Ophthalmology Service. You will
become part of our Specialist-led multi-disciplinary clinical team, which includes highly motivated
residents, specialty and general interns, highly skilled nurses, and incredible support teams.
The ophthalmology internship will encompass a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting
department operations. These tasks include contributing to inpatient care, conducting consultations,
assisting with student teaching, handling emergency cases under supervision, assuming primary care
responsibilities, performing diagnostic procedures, and participating in surgeries. This role offers
comprehensive exposure to both medical and surgical patient management and provides experience
working within a referral team. Additionally, interns will be encouraged to participate in clinical
research. The ophthalmology internship will prepare the candidate effectively for a seamless
transition into an approved residency training program.

The ophthalmology internship position is full-time (40-hour week); and the successful candidate will
contribute to our weekdays/weekends/bank holidays on call and out of hours ophthalmology clinic
rotas.

The ideal applicant will have a minimum of two years of experience in general practice or completion
of a rotating internship at a multi-disciplinary hospital. While a postgraduate qualification in
ophthalmology would be advantageous, it is not mandatory. Proficiency in both written and spoken
English at an excellent level is expected.

and be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). College transcripts will only
be required from successful candidates after the interview process.

About us
Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists is a large specialist-led multidisciplinary referral hospital
providing veterinary referral services across the South of England including London, the south coast
and the Thames Valley. Our services include Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology,
Dermatology, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology and
Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic and Soft Tissue Surgery; and Physiotherapy. The hospital is an ISFM gold
feline clinic and was awarded the BVHA design award for an outstanding working environment. We
are part of CVS (UK) Ltd, the largest provider of integrated veterinary services in the UK; the referrals
division currently operates eight referral hospitals in the UK and Ireland.

Our service boasts fully equipped Ophthalmology-specific consulting rooms, as well as an Ophthalmology surgical suite complete with slit lamp biomicroscopes, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopes, a fundus camera, an anterior segment camera/macro-lens, tonometers (tonovets and tonopens), gonioscopy lenses, an ERG machine, an operating microscope with a viewing screen, a phacoemulsification machine, and a cryotherapy unit. Our Ophthalmology service also conducts regular BVA/KC/ISDS EYE testing sessions. Additionally, we have a 1.5T MRI, a state-of-the-art CT scanner, digital radiography, and high-end ultrasound units. An in-house laboratory with a cytology microscope is also available. We collaborate extensively with other services within the hospital to optimize patient care.

Location
Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists hospital is situated on the edge of the beautiful South Downs
with ample opportunity for outdoor activities and plenty of cosy Hampshire pubs to explore. We are
40 minutes from the south coast and less than an hour from London with easy access to several
major airports making our location excellent in so many respects.
