Animal Eye services is offering an 18-month Veterinary Ophthalmology Internship starting June/July 2024.
Animal Eye Services is a 25 year established Specialist Veterinary Ophthalmology Practice in Brisbane, Australia. We are currently growing and adding to our strong team of Specialist Ophthalmologists and Residents. Our veterinarians are supported by a wonderful team of trained Ophthalmology Nurses. We are an independent practice working within a purpose built multi disciplinary specialty hospital with three dedicated surgical suites, ophthalmology diagnostics suite, prep areas and two dedicated consult rooms. We also service branch consulting spaces on the Northside of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We are seeking a motivated veterinarian to join our team for a full-time 18-month Veterinary Ophthalmology Internship position beginning June or July 2024.
About the role
This 18-month full time internship offers an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, hardworking, experienced and professional individual to work and learn in a busy and friendly referral ophthalmology team.
The successful candidate is expected to work 4 days per week and occasional overtime. Interns participate in consultations, minor surgeries and procedures, surgery setups, anaesthesia and monitoring, inpatient treatments, patient discharge, preparing patients for surgeries, postoperative recovery and client communication. Mentorship will be provided by our friendly team of ophthalmologists and you will be expected to engage in self-directed learning such as attending continuing development lectures and independent reading of core texts and journals. During the course of the internship, at least one paper is expected to be written and submitted for publication into a suitable peer reviewed journal.
About you
Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in Queensland, possess excellent communication skills, and have a strong work ethic. We have a very positive work based culture and candidates must have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
A strong interest in veterinary ophthalmology is essential, and preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience and knowledge in the discipline. For example peer reviewed publications, post graduate veterinary ophthalmology courses and continuing education events, and recognised postgraduate qualifications.
Candidates with at least 3 years of clinical experience will be preferred.
What AES offers
We are a very busy practice with a high surgical caseload and provide gold standard specialist ophthalmology practice in a well equipped and a positive working environment. On the job training and support will be provided in general ophthalmic examination and minor surgical procedures. Remuneration is above award and includes paid attendance to one ophthalmology conference and a personal laptop. We highly value work-life balance and consequently we have no on-call roster, finish on time most days and the occasional overtime (for example for emergency surgeries) includes bonus pay.
