Eye Right Referrals is looking for a Veterinary Ophthalmologist to join our growing independent ophthalmology team across Central Scotland.
This is an exciting time to join our rapidly growing service. We have built an excellent reputation with referring vets and clients, achieving 5-star reviews across every site we visit. In early 2027, we will open our beautiful new dedicated ophthalmology clinic in Dunfermline, just two minutes’ drive from the motorway.
You will join our fabulous team of two full-time ophthalmologists, supported by two experienced part-time/locum ophthalmologists.

The role
You’ll manage a varied medical and surgical ophthalmology caseload with genuine clinical autonomy and continuity of your own cases.
Our service covers Central Scotland, with a shared rota between our new Dunfermline clinic and established outreach clinics in Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling and Fife.

If you’re already experienced in intraocular surgery, there is plenty of opportunity to develop this further. Equally, if you’d like to develop your intraocular skills, training and support in procedures including phacoemulsification will be available.
You’ll be working alongside other experienced ophthalmologists, so there is always someone around to discuss an interesting or difficult case with.

The new clinic
Our new Dunfermline clinic has been designed specifically for ophthalmology and will be extremely well equipped, including:
• Four operating microscopes, including a double-headed teaching microscope with video
• Trisonic 3000 phacoemulsification system
• FOX ophthalmic diode laser with micropulse capability
• Retivet ERG
• Gonioscopy and comprehensive ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical equipment
• Access to the full breadth of other specialists, including CT and MRI at our host hospitals we work alongside.

The teaching microscope reflects how we want to work: sharing experience, operating together where useful and continuing to develop everyone’s clinical and surgical skills.

Who we’re looking for
You’ll be an RCVS-registered veterinary surgeon with postgraduate training and experience in ophthalmology.
We welcome Certificate holders, Advanced Practitioners, European or American Diplomates and those with equivalent experience.
We’re looking for someone clinically capable, approachable and comfortable working independently, but who also enjoys being part of a team.
We are predominantly looking for the right person to fit with our friendly team, with the attention to detail and enthusiasm to continue to offer the best Ophthalmology has to offer.

On call and work-life balance
There is a shared, relaxed on-call rota. Our referring practices provide their own out-of-hours care, meaning weekend on-call is most often telephone advice and support rather than travelling in to see emergencies.

We also believe work should leave enough time to enjoy life outside it. We’re based within easy reach of some of the best outdoor activities in the UK, and the beautiful city of Edinburgh.
