Veterinary Ophthalmologist – Peripatetic Role in Central Scotland

Are you a passionate Veterinary ophthalmologist looking for clinical freedom, a diverse caseload and the autonomy to manage your own schedule? Are you keen to work in a small family business where you can genuinely make a difference?

Founded in 2025 by brothers Michael and Richard McCallum, View Referrals are looking for a driven peripatetic veterinary ophthalmologist to assist in delivering high-quality, ophthalmic care to first-opinion practices across Central Scotland. You will act as the go-to expert for primary care teams, providing both medical and surgical interventions directly within their clinics.

The Role

Working full time or part time (dependent on applicant) from host clinics located around central Scotland to conduct referral ophthalmic consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures as necessary. Kit provided includes Keeler Classic slit-lamp, iCare Tonovet, Heine Omega 600 indirect headset, along with full surgical kit and surgical microscopes.
Be able to offer high level extra-ocular surgeries in-house, including corneal grafting, and blepharoplasty procedures, with in-house support (and training if desired) for intra-ocular procedures including phacoemulsification (B&L Stellaris machine).
Build strong, collaborative relationships with primary care veterinary teams, offering informal clinical advice and upskilling staff.
Manage your own diary to optimise travel time, case continuity, and your personal work-life balance. Some OOH provision required.

The Ideal Candidate

RCVS registered veterinary surgeon holding a Certificate or Diploma in Veterinary Ophthalmology. Candidates nearing completion of a certificate are also encouraged to apply.
Highly confident in sole-charge medical and surgical ophthalmology.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust with both referring vets and anxious pet owners.
Holds a full, clean UK driving licence and is comfortable with regular regional travel across Central Scotland.
