BrAVO Winter Meeting ONLINE – Ocular Genetics

On 6th November 2021, the British Association of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (BrAVO) will host a whole day of webinars for our 2021 Winter Meeting. The topic will be “Ocular Genetics”. If you want to find out more about inherited ocular diseases, how they present and how to test for them, don’t miss out. Speakers include Cathryn Mellersh, James Oliver and Claudia Hartley. There will be a live panel discussion for attendees to ask the speakers any eye-related questions. All sessions will be recorded and viewable for three months after the event. Membership to BrAVO is required to attend the event (except for nurses/students).

We are a dedicated ophthalmology referral practice, fully equipped with microsurgical operating facilities for extra and intraocular procedures. We provide tertiary referral services for endo-laser, corneal cross-linking, complex phacoemulsification, and high-speed posterior vitrectomy for retinal re-attachment surgery.

Internship at Eye Vet Clinic (Leominster, UK)

This twelve-month position is available to candidates that have an interest in ophthalmology. The clinic is situated in the beautiful county of Herefordshire which is famous for apples and potatoes! The successful candidates will be working with four ophthalmology specialists, an anaesthesia specialist, four residents and eleven registered veterinary nurses to help run the clinical service. A large focus will be on in-patient care and provision of assistance to the veterinary ophthalmologists. ACVO Conference 2021 (Indianapolis, IN)

THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF VETERINARY OPHTHALMOLOGISTS’ 52nd Annual Scientific Conference and Tradeshow will take place, IN-PERSON in Indianapolis, IN, September 29th – October 2nd, 2021 and ON-DEMAND starting October 8th, 2021.

The ACVO Conference is the largest veterinary ophthalmology educational meeting in the world. Researchers and clinical practitioners from over 30 countries convene to share information, while earning on average 20+ hours of RACE approved ‘live’ CE credit (approval pending). The conference offers over 130 abstract presentations in both presentation and poster formats, a keynote speaker, a residents’ workshop and manuscript competition, optional Sunday Masters’ course, and an 8-hour general practitioner’s course (available separately). The conference typically has 900-1,000 attendees and vendors. The program is laced with opportunities to network including a meeting for those interested in learning about residencies and sub-specialty areas of interest Students, interns and residents are offered special rates. We welcome anyone interested in veterinary ophthalmology to attend either the full conference or the General Practitioner’s course alone.

Our plan. ACVO will be providing an innovative ‘hybrid’ conference format, serving both in-person and on-demand attendees.

In-Person. ACVO is submitting for ‘live, interactive’ R.A.C.E. credit for both in-person and on-demand sessions. The in-person sessions will provide approximately 16-20 hours of ‘live credit’, (pending R.A.C.E. approval). In-person attendees will also have On-Demand access.

On-Demand. The on-demand platform will provide on-demand sessions and limited live Q&A sessions with in-depth, keynote and residents’ workshop presenters. On-demand attendees will be able to begin viewing presentations Friday, October 8th. Dates to be posted soon. The on-demand sessions will likely offer approximately 6 hours of ‘live credit’, and 15 + ‘anytime credit’, R.A.C.E. approved. (R.A.C.E. approval is expected but pending until this summer).

Experienced Ophthalmologist at Eye Vet (Cheshire, UK)

Eye Vet is a dedicated ophthalmology practice, established ten years ago, with multi-disciplinary support from nearby Northwest Veterinary Specialists and the Liverpool University Small Animal Teaching Hospital. As well as referral work from the surrounding primary care veterinary practices, we provide clinical teaching and placements for final year students from the University of Liverpool each week and provide ophthalmology support for Chester Zoo.

The Practice

We offer excellent facilities, with two dedicated ophthalmology theatres equipped with Zeiss microscopes, AMO Whitestar phaco machines, Iridex Diovet laser, Retevet ERG, GE Logiq-e Ultrasound, 35MHz Ultrasound, corneal crosslinking, SBM Sistemi ICP OSA-vet interferometry and Kowa digital cameras. All four consulting rooms are equipped with Kowa slit-lamps, Keeler indirect wireless headsets and Tonovets.

We are a team of friendly, supportive vets and enthusiastic, experienced ophthalmic RVN’s and share the excellent ECVAA anaesthetic team with Northwest Veterinary Specialists.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced ophthalmologist to work alongside the current team of 6 clinicians and 11 RVNs.

We are less than an hour from the coast, and the mountains of North Wales. Eye Vet is an easy commute from Chester, Manchester , Liverpool and North Wales Full or Part time hours are available, as are job share and flexible working options to enable a good work/life balance. We have an equally shared on call rota.

The service is well supported by our first opinion vets and nurses providing 7 day and overnight care for in-patients.

Ideally we are looking for an experienced Ophthalmologist of Advanced Practitioner standard or above to apply for this position, however if you are enrolled in a training programme you would be considered and support for further development will be given.
