The Role

We are looking for an experienced Ophthalmologist (diplomate or advanced practitioner) to come and join our ophthalmology team.

We pride ourselves on not only giving the best possible treatment and care to our patients and clients, but also in creating a supportive and encouraging working environment for our colleagues. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a referral setting and be able to manage their own clinical and surgical caseload. This role will be a mix of consultation and surgical duties.

Full-time or part-time will be considered. You will be required to take part in a shared out-of-hours rota which includes weekends and bank holidays.

About Us

Created in 2000, Rowe Veterinary Referrals (RVR) is part of the long-established Rowe Veterinary Group (RVG). RVR is a multidisciplinary, multi-site, referral veterinary practice based in North Bristol.

We are fully kitted out with the latest equipment including an Oertli OS4 phaco/VR machine, endolaser, high frequency ultrasound, ERG, cross-linking etc. The Ophthalmology team is well established with an excellent reputation. Your role and responsibilities

We are now offering an exciting opportunity to join our friendly Ophthalmology Team as an Ophthalmology intern. Over the year of this position, you will be an integral part of the experienced Ophthalmology team here at Davies working closely with your colleagues, the other vets throughout the other disciplines, highly skilled nurses and incredible support teams. Our fantastic facilities include two dedicated Ophthalmology-specific consult rooms, five operating theatres including a dedicated Ophthalmology theatre equipped with a Zeiss OPMI Lumera i operating microscope and a WhiteStar Signature phacoemulsification unit. In addition, we have a recently redeveloped on-site imaging suite with state-of-the-art Samsung RS85 ultrasound machines, a Siemens 1.5T MRI scanner and a Siemens 64-slice CT scanner.

The ideal candidate will have completed a rotating internship, loves to work within a team, and obviously has a passion for all things Ophthalmology! Some experience in the management ophthalmology cases is essential, as is being personable with a good sense of humour. Further qualifications, such as post-graduate certification, would be desirable but not a requirement. We pride ourselves on being a supportive and friendly team and as a proactive member you will be keen to provide a service of the highest possible standards in a busy, stimulating and supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will be to work alongside the clinicians and nursing team to provide care for our in- and out-patients on a daily basis, including consultations, client communication, surgeries and anaesthesia. Ongoing education is supported through journal club meetings and hospital rounds where you would be expected to actively participate. Weekend cover is based on a shared rota with other clinicians assuring a healthy work-life balance.

Optivet Referrals is one of the leading Veterinary Ophthalmology hospitals in the UK, with state-of-the-art facilities, that is rapidly expanding and accepts referral surgical and medical cases apart from ophthalmology referrals. The Anaesthesia and Analgesia team consists of a senior anaesthetist (Diplomate ACVAA and ECVAA), another anaesthetist with the ECVAA residency completed and an Anaesthesia Resident. The majority of the patients are dogs and cats (95%), and the remainder are exotics.

The ophthalmology intern will be expected to contribute to the care of ophthalmology in-patients, to help in consults, surgery and anaesthesia, and to provide out-of-hours service. The Ophthalmology team hold weekly Journal club meetings, which the interns are expected to attend. The whole Optivet team holds monthly grand rounds and mortality/morbidity rounds, where the interns will be expected to present at least once.

The internship will have a duration of 12 months. A competitive and attractive benefit package is offered.
